Training young people in Muyinga

Training activities and coaching sessions for the 25 young entrepreneurs selected in Muyinga took place this month from  17th to 21st February. To be selected in this program, one must have graduated from high school, be unemployed and available to follow the training, have innovative ideas and be below the age of 35. At the end of the training, each entrepreneur is expected to start his own organisation. This program is highly beneficial to the youth in Burundi as it addresses the problem of unemployment and poverty.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year partners and friends of New Generation! 2015 is going to be an exceptional year for us. We plan to continue making a positive impact in the lives of children, young people and families in Burundi while still following the three major objectives that we have as an organisation. These objectives are:

  • To get the youth to turn away from wicked ways and renew their way of thinking
  • To provide young people with artistic and intellectual training with the purpose of restoring our culture and for the glory of God.
  • To bring the youth to participate in vocational training and in the production of goods and services for sustainable socio-economic development.

This year, New Generation wants to reach out to more street children and bring them out of the streets. We plan to reach out to the youth, who make up the majority of the population of Burundi (nearly 50% of the population is under 14) with a message of peace and reconciliation, encouraging them to build their country and contribute to its development.

As 2015 is an election year in Burundi, we plan to advocate for a change in some of the laws and statutes that limit young people from occupying better socio-economic positions. This time, we want the youth to participate positively in the elections and not be used by politicians to destroy their own country.

We invite you to join us again this year, as we make all this and much more happen!

A great end to 2014!

Another terrific month, and a great end to the year at New Generation. We would like to thank you for supporting us and the vision that we have for the youth in Burundi and for the whole country.

On the 19 December, New Generation children made us proud by receiving excellent results at school. 18 of them (out of 46) were among the top ten students of their classes. Only 3 got a percentage that was below average.
We were also amazed to see that 8 out of the 10 street children that we reintegrated back to school were among the top five students in their classes.

Well done guys!!

We had such fun celebrating Christmas with the children, thank you to everyone who donated and supported it! We were able to buy new clothes and shoes for them, give them a delicious Christmas lunch, play games and go to the beach – what a day! We did it together with the children with Oasis church, and they even performed some songs and dances that they had been practicing together!

Thanks to you, we have been able to touch many lives in Burundi. We pray that you will continue to witness the goodness of God in your life. May you have a blessed Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2015!

Give Christmas to a street child in Burundi

This December we’re raising money to support our Street Child Program. We want to give the children we work with, the Christmas they deserve. But the money raised will not only be used for Christmas day. With your help we can give them food every day, a place to sleep, the equipment they need for school, and a safe and loving environment.

  • £5 will buy lunch for 5 children
  • £15 will pay for food and school fees for a child for one month
  • £50 will help us provide somewhere for the children to sleep

Looking back on an exciting year

2014 has been an exciting year for New Generation.

This year, we have been able to feed more children than last year, and on a more regular basis. In September, we reintegrated 10 more street children into a local primary school and ensured that each child had the necessary school equipment. We now support 36 children in total.

We took a group of former street boys to Brazil to take part in the Street Child World Cup – and came second!

Through our Youth Engagement Program and Youth Entrepreneurship Program, we challenged young people from different parts of Burundi to rise up and contribute to the development of their country.

All this would not have been possible without the generous contributions of friends and partners of New Generation Burundi and without the grace of God. We want to take this opportunity to say thank you for making many children and young people smile in Burundi!

Campaigning in Bubanza

Yesterday, New Generation Burundi along with the team of youth leaders, part of the “Burundi, UrwarukaTurashoboye” campaign, went to Bubanza for the second public campaign. Thousands of people came. The event started with a football match between our Team Imboneza and the Elephants underground football team from Bubanza. Our team won 1-0. This was followed by the campaign, where we delivered our message to the public through dances, songs, speeches and testimonies.

In the morning before the event, New Generation spoke to the students from Lycée Bubanza and Ecole Technique de Bubanza about the importance of education, encouraging them to persevere and not to give up so that they can contribute to the development of Burundi.

Prior to this campaign, New Generation participated in numerous radio shows (11 in total in 9 radio stations), talking to young people about the youth engagement program and the campaign “Burundi, Urwaruka Turashoboye”. A video report highlighting the first public campaign held at Centre Jeunes Kamenge was also produced.
