The Outreach program

Every Wednesday, the New Generation Burundi movement welcomes street-connected children through its outreach programme. The programme is run by the Gir’iteka department.

As its name suggests, the Gir’iteka department aims to restore honour and dignity to children in vulnerable situations, particularly street-connected children, while bringing them a message of hope and enabling them to have an ounce of light in their lives.

The Outreach programme involves first reaching out to street-connected children to share some food and getting to know them. The team locates children in immediate need on the ground, that is those who have found themselves on the street due to family problems, orphans, or those who at some point in their lives have no longer had access to education, in order to reintegrate them into their families or provide an accomodation and a chance to go back to school. This process is made possible by collecting testimonies from the lives of these children.

These children get to take part in moral sessions and interactive games that offer possibilities to identify a child’s unique talent and potential. This happens once a week at the New Generation Burundi center.

This year, we wish to integrate 10 children by not only providing them with a roof over their heads and food, but also to invest in them through education, and finally to reintegrate them fully into life in society.
