Asman’s Transformation: A Story of Hope, Education, and Ambition

My name is Asman Bigirimana and I’m 23 years old. I finished my secondary school this year, in the academic year 2023-2024.

I remember a training that happened in the province of Muyinga when I was 6 years old. The CEO & Founder of New Generation organized a get-together for street-connected children, and I happened to be there. I was asked to stay back so that I could chat with him.

During that time, I was a street-connected child. I got the opportunity to live in one of the houses among 12 other street-connected children in Muyinga. I stayed three years in that accommodation.

I started going to school, from Primary 1. New Generation was paying my school fees.

I came to Bujumbura in 2010. I joined a school here and continued my studies. Since I studied in a French system for most of my academic journey, I have learned a lot.

I chose Economics as a field of study, as I wish to open my own micro-finance company and become an entrepreneur. The income I get from the micro-finance will help me towards
