From Bumper to Bumper: Ready for Life

‘’My name is Bahati Innocent and I’m 13 years old.

I have been part of New Generation Burundi since 2015. Prior to that, the only life I knew was one of pain and struggle, and that is the life I lived on the streets which also included some challenging family dynamics.

The life I am living now is one that I had never imagined it being possible.

I am currently attending the Traditional dance workshop at the New Generation center since summer vacations are ongoing. I love dancing, it’s my passion! And more so, dancing to the Burundian music and drums, I love my culture!

I have also been able to attend a few English learning sessions. I love learning new languages! I want to be able to speak English fluently one day.

From September 2023, I will join Standard 9.

I’m part of the team flying to India for the Street Child Cricket World Cup. Preparations are going well, the team trains every day for an hour.

This is a great opportunity to be a Spokesperson for children who are still on the streets.

I have lived the street life, and I know how it feels when a child does not have access to medical assistance and is humiliated every step of the way. My message for these children is that: ‘’Do not be afraid, you will not be in the same phase, this is a road to something bigger

We start from bottom and raise to the top ‘’

I want to try different experiences in life, have savings and start my own small ventures

I wish to become a Doctor

I am forever grateful for what New Generation has done for me, and I want to be able to help those who don’t have hope, by building an orphanage for children.

God has never left my side and led me to where I am today, and he has great plans for me.

 I am ready for Life!’’

Innocent is back from India, has made new friends and is looking forward to more opportunities in his life!
